I don’t take it by coincidence that my blog is completed in the month of May. May is Mental
Health Awareness month. According to the US HHS Office of Minority Health, adult black/
African Americans are 20 percent more likely to report serious psychological distress than
whites. While the number of blacks being treated for mental illness, and diagnosed with a
mental illness is also significantly lower.
There are many factors for these numbers and disparities (access to healthcare, stigma,
knowledge etc) But from personal experience I know just how important mental healthcare is,
and how a healthy mind is imperative to living a full, happy and healthy life. Our minds affect
every single area of our lives.
EVERY. SINGLE. AREA
The types of relationships we have, the careers we choose, what we do for our health. Shoot,
the kind of hairstyles we pick all start with a thought. Nothing was ever created without it
being a thought first. And we all know, thoughts become actions. Actions become habits. And
habits become our reality. And I just want us ALL to win.
And in no way have I “arrived” or mastered becoming whole in all areas of my life. But I have
realized, we are all just trying to figure it out. The journey is so much better when you have a
strong support system along for the ride.
I will be sharing the experiences, and lessons I have learned through many failures and
triumphs in my short life-span that have helped me grow to who I am now. I hope that it
inspires my fellow queens to dig deeper, and become the best version of themselves. Let’s
“get back to Eden” and leave this Earth empty from sharing all of our gifts, and talents, making
the world a better place.
Just like flowers in a garden we all look, feel differently and play different roles. Standing side
by side, with the proper cultivation we can become a beautiful sight to see! My prayer is that
we don’t just do the same things year after year, and call that a life, but that we women will
begin to thrive and BLOOM!
